Above the Kitchen Cabinets!

A style study about the space above your kitchen cabinets using the wonderful world of photographs along with the work and keen eye of designers and decorators.

Hire a contractor or if you're handy, search the several diy how to's on the web with instructions on how to create your own "built in's".

Trick used here is the constant use of one colour for the visible items in the upper cabinets.

By opting to 'do nothing' the space becomes conducive to the minimalist neat and tidy just moved in look!

'Non Organic' (ha ha) aka fake plants have to be done carefully. In my opinion, stray from the aged creeping grape vines of the 90's, look for decent quality and plan to clean these items.

The baskets may or may not contain items, they do however bring nice warm texture.

The single white bottle simply sits comfortably on top alone, and in an understated way repeats other white elements in the kitchen.

The evenly distributed platters create a pretty backdrop for the brightly polished and eye-catching silver pieces and soup terrine. Notice how everything in front has shape in common as does everything in behind.

This is 'do nothing but not'. The space above the over hood has been finished with the same stone found on the island. You could also opt for backsplash tile or use a compliment or feature paint colour.

Kitchen collectables. All of these amber bottle displayed in a somewhat random way were probably constantly tweaked in one direction or another until it all felt 'right'. I love how the vintage Mrs. Butterworth's bottle discreetly stands out.

Also notice how some of the bottles may be vintage however the cabinet items and countertop display is not. I think it's a good trick to not overthink a theme. Little of this and that is wonderful!

Large pieces. This photo has great balance and I'd actually like to point out that these woven items could also easily be framed art, or, the middle a collection of cookbooks between awesome bookends.

If you study the photo's it's really about keeping it simple in colour and contents, creating a flow and using items large enough to stand out.
