Eclectic Decor 6 simple tips
Eclectic Decor 6 Simple Tips!
1. Find Don't Shop!
Just be patient, then furniture will fit the space, be used and store items the way you want. Your personal items will become a part of the organic flow of your space. It will add to the feel of your decor because it speaks to you, you found it, maybe refinished it, or even redesigned it. Let your childhood, travel and life journey in.
2. Colour
Use it to spice up the space but try to maintain a balance with neutrals.
The photo below features Black and White with and Aqua backdrop then the unexpected hits of pink and rust really add to the unique feel of the space. Queen Anne curves and crispness of the Arts and Crafts details and Frames are awesome together! Great space!
3. The unexpected.
This goes a long way. Mix it up...shabby chic, country, crystal with rustic, contemporary, wood tones, new, up cycled, refinished, vintage, retro, antiques, painted, stained, and even "new" store purchases.
4. No Matchy Matchy!
With eclectic decor the essence is lost with furnishings that are all purchased from one line or too much of one thing.
At first glance rustic then at closer look you notice the tables, the busts and unexpected mismatched shades. It really keeps the room from going all flea market!
5. Meaningful items, objects and art.
Showcase what you love. I've read that you shouldn't display anything smaller than your hand but I think there's a trick to displaying anything! Put your items where they won't be disrupted when you use the area for it's intended purpose. (i.e. leave space on the top of a dining room side board for dining items use)
6. Balance Crisp and Comfort
Eclectic decor can mean there's a place for everything, your own decor refinished pieces, teen or child artwork gifts, handmade items ... Eclectic means you can put yourself out there for people to get a feel of who you are when they walk into your home. It's personal.
White and a flow of warm tones....then that unexpected blue chesterfield! I love how this room says 'get in here, get comfy, grab a book...'
