It starts with a burlap sack!

I'm not sure where this post fits best...

Fall decor?

Round Table Centre Piece?

hiding a lazy susan turn-table ring?

Burlap Sack Upcycle??

Not to be taking myself too seriously though, this project ticked a few boxes for me!

Here's the turntable ring I want to conceal. We bought it at a Chinese restaurant supply store. The glass is a table top from a home store (pier one).

So I have my coffee sack now something to stabilize the back of my matt!

I happened to have a thermal table liner remnant tucked away however you could use -very heavy canvas

heavy single side fusible interfacing (kind of like felt)

vinyl

...

it just has to have enough stability to both line the burlap and help it maintain shape.

My instructions are going to follow making a round matt however you can easily measure for square or rectangle.

My matt is going to be 22" so I planted a pin and tape into my stabilizer and as I circled the tape around my piece I followed with a white board marker, then cut this piece out.

My burlap was ironed, then layed face side down.

I spray glued the felt side of my matt to the burlap.

Then I cut around the burlap leaving about a half inch of the burlap larger than the matt and ironed again.

Matt and Burlap become one!

I then ran a zig zag stitch from the bottom around the perimeter of the matt about a 1/2" in from the edge.

Secure the burlap edge...Then with a zipper foot I straight stitched on the over-hanging burlap.

Wow... Don't you love it when a plan works!

Well, this burlap matt reminds me so much of fall and those old root veggie sacks I think I'm going to run with this.

I love "one of these things is not like the other"!

So here I had an antique spool, 2 slender turned candle holders and one squat candle holder.

They were all Black and I forgot to take a photo but I'm guessing we've all see a black candle holder!

I painted them out in varying chalk paint shades starting with grey adding white and gold tones. The silver on the grey piece is just silver paint -finger painted on! They were all black under so how easy to distress was this project!

enter fall items... I'm a bit on the 'less is more' team, which can come across a steril however with the warm tones and theme:

The glass ghourds add a touch of elegance for the dining room, the candles will add a touch of light and warmth, and the rustic charm of distressing works nicely with the burlap matt.. in my opinion of course!
