Steampunk Jewelry Box diy
I see these jewelry boxes at thrift stores all of the time and have been wanting to try my hand at a jewelry box redo after seeing so many fun designs.
Hmmmm I needed a unique idea for my teen daughters room. I actually love steam punk myself but this one's for her!
For this project I just had to purchase the jewelry box, and metal 'steam~punky' embellishments. I bought several packages of embellishments but will be returning several as it turned out the gears, keys and dragon flies were all I used. Additional items already on hand included 'goop' glue, quilt batting, small amount of fabric, black paint, mod podge.
Then I set to disassembling the box completely. The ring tray was coming apart so I took it out as well.
I computer searched, copied and pasted several steam punk images I liked then printed the pages for the decoupage element of the jewelry box. The top was easy to trace on the wrong side. The side panels I just measured and cut.
For the ring tray, once I had my 'cushion tubes' made, 7 were glued in place to replace the old ring cushions.
Once I decoupaged and glued on my embellishments everything was put back together. This is the finished project interior and a good shot of the new ring tray.
Sides and top image of the decoupage and glued embellishments. This project was so relaxing and fun. It's one of those things you can just let yourself play!
